Description

Between all the leaves and figuring out a pattern for the flowers, this one took a lot of work, but I'm really happy with how she turned out.

Pattern:

Materials:
Light green, dark green, yellow, red, and pink yarn
Black safety eyes or buttons
Size G crochet hook

Abbreviations used:
sc - single crochet
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
hdc - half-double crochet
dc - double crochet
inc - two sc in the same stitch
dec - decrease over the next two stitches

Head & Body:
In light green:
1. 6 sc in magic ring (6)
2. inc around (12)
3. (sc, inc) six times (18)
4. (2 sc, inc) six times (24)
5. (3 sc, inc) six times (30)
6. (4 sc, inc) six times (36)
7. (5 sc, inc) six times (42)
8-13. sc around (42)
14. (5 sc, dec) six times (36)
15. (4 sc, dec) six times (30)
16. (3 sc, dec) six times (24)
If you are using safety eyes, stuff the piece lightly to get an idea of the shape of the head, then position the eyes and snap them into place.
17. (5 sc, inc) four times (28)
18. (6 sc, inc) four times (32)
19-22. sc around (32)
23. (14 sc, dec) twice (30)
24. (3 sc, dec) six times (24)
Stuff the piece firmly, and continue stuffing as you close it up.
25. (2 sc, dec) six times (18)
26. (sc, dec) six times (12)
27. dec six times (6)
Fasten off and sew closed.

Flowers (make 2):
In red:
Step 1: ch 10, and join into a ring with a sl st. (10 ch)
Step 2: make 15 sc directly in the ring (NOT in the stitches themselves) (15 sc)
Step 3: ch 6 (6 ch)
Step 4: sc in 2nd ch from the hook, and each chain after (5 sc). sl st in the front loop of the next sc of the ring from step 2
Step 5: turn and work along the sc from step 4: sc, sc, hdc, hdc, dc
Step 6: chain 1, turn, sc in next 5 stitches, then sl st in the front loop of the next sc of the ring from step 2
Step 7: repeat step 5.
Step 8: repeat step 6. One petal completed.
Step 9: repeat steps 3 through 8 four more times for a total of five petals.
Step 10: You should now be back at the start of the ring you made in step 2. Repeat steps 3 through 9, this time working in the back loops of the ring instead of the front loops. You should end up with five more petals behind your original five.
Step 11: sl st around the edges of the petals to join back to front.
Fasten off.

Assembly:
The leaves attach to the body in three layers: from the bottom, four green leaves positioned on the diagonals, then four yellow leaves on front/back/left/right, and finally the last four green leaves, two each in front and back.
Sew the yellow flower centers to the middle of each flower, then sew the flowers to either side of the head.
Attach the arms to the sides of the body, slightly above the leaves.
Finally, using pink and red yarn, and your buttons if you decided not to use safety eyes, embroider the facial features onto the head.
The leaves should be thick enough for the figure to stand on its own; if it is too floppy, you can sew the bottom layer of leaves together where they touch for added stability.
